Frequently Asked Questions

Why online only sessions?

There are multiple reasons why online counselling is beneficial. It reduces travel time and burden on clients, and for many it provides comfort to be in their own environment. Being flexible and more cost effective benefit the client as additional overhead costs would increase charges. All of my online sessions are HIPAA and GDPR compliant through the video platform used and utilise end-to-end encryption for optimal security and peace of mind.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed varies for each individual and depends on your specific goals and progress. This will always be discussed and agreed with you during your initial session. You will never be encouraged to have more sessions than you require - your wellbeing is what matters most to me.

Is counselling confidential?

Confidentiality is a top priority in counselling. Your sessions and personal information will be kept private and secure. The law and ethical framework I adhere to will be summarised with you during your first session. You can find further details of the code of ethics I follow as part of my professional accreditation here https://ncps.com/about-us/code-of-ethics

How long do sessions last?

Sessions last 45 minutes. Generally clients are encouraged to attend weekly, but I can offer a limited number of fortnightly slots to clients on a smaller budget. I maintain a waitlist to manage the demand for these.

How much do sessions cost?

I believe in transparency with pricing. Sessions cost £50 and the fee is payable within 48 hours of the session. I offer a 20% discount for students (over 18), including training counsellors.

if you are in receipt of Personal Independence Payment, advanced mobility and Daily living component, you are also eligible for this discount.

What kind of thing can you help me with?

While counselling is broadly broken down into 'topics' such as grief, stress, depression, anxiety, OCD, Anger for example; the presentation and circumstances each client brings are entirely unique and there is no one size fits all. It is common for therapists to meet clients experiencing a whole spectrum of difficulties and I am skilled and trained to assist with these incidences. I pride myself on practicing ethically and can make referrals and signpost clients where I cannot support them within my professional remit.

Can you diagnose me?

Simply put, no. Psychotherapists are not qualified to diagnose personality disorders, ADHD, Autism etc and it would be very unethical to do so. As a counsellor, I can support you through some of the difficulties you may be experiencing in your day-to-day life, but I cannot 'treat' you for an undiagnosed issue.

for diagnoses, I recommend that you speak to your GP first and foremost or seek the support of a psychologist.

How do I know you are qualified?

I am an accredited registrant member of the National Psychotherapeutic and Counselling service. Much like the BACP, they do not allow membership without valid insurance, strict qualification criteria, codes of conduct and ethical standards and evidence must be provided to support membership.

My membership number is NCS22-00886.
